Maybe you're thinking.... "I'm not on a diet," but in reality, most women diet continuously whether they realize it or not. Here are the most common dieting styles:
Careful Clean Eater
The careful, clean eater outwardly appears to be health conscious and has strict rules about the foods she eats.
She anguishes over every morsel of food she puts in her body and feels anxious about the possible consequences of her food choices. She chastises herself after eating foods perceived to be unhealthy or forbidden.
She spends a lot of her time planning her meals and snacks. She teeters between obsessive practices to maintain her body image vs. truly caring about her health and well-being.
While focusing on healthy eating is important, being overly rigid and losing the ability to enjoy food can lead to destructive practices and a poor relationship with food.
Professional Dieter
The professional dieter is always on a food plan , has tried every weight loss gimmick and diet craze out there. She is very knowledgeable about calories, portions, and even counting macros, but her knowledge hasn't proven to benefit her.
She is prone to binge eating or engaging in the " Last Supper" behavior when she eats food that is perceived as forbidden. Last Supper eating is a form of binging when the eater believes they can never have the forbidden food again and eats until they feel uncomfortable or overly full.
Unconscious Chaotic Dieter
The Chaotic Unconscious Dieter pairs eating with another activity, such as working, watching TV, or surfing the internet. She is often chronically overscheduled and has a haphazard eating style, grabbing food wherever it is available.
The Unconscious Chaotic Dieter feels nutrition is important but can not prioritize her own needs because she feels everything else is more important. She subconsciously feels shame about her eating practices.
This dieter is always thinking about what she should do foodwise and is prone to feelings of despair, low confidence, and frustration with her perceived " lack of willpower".
Emotional Unconscious Dieter
This dieter uses food to cope with painful emotions like stress, fear, loss, and anger. She is prone to binge eating on a routine basis or when certain trigger events occur.
She often combines her binging with other activities like binge-watching Netflix and is often unaware of how much she is eating.
Why Dieting Doesn't Work
These dieting types surface over time once a female begins limiting her food intake or " dieting."
Dieting harms a woman's health, psychological well-being, and quality of life. Diets don't work; studies show they make you fatter, slow your metabolism, and erode your self-confidence.
Dieting can keep you on a rollercoaster with your weight, emotions, and self-esteem. It can also impair your metabolism, making it harder to burn fat as fuel.
On the other hand, women who eat intuitively and focus on supporting their body based on health goals experience better health, can maintain their weight without dieting, and feel more confident. They are less likely to binge eat or have eating disorders.
